Transcribing verbatim transcripts from audio, video & digital files Interview

Name of your website?

Transcribing verbatim transcripts from audio, video & digital files

Your name?

Carolyn Bodley

Your Location (city, etc)

Westminster, CO 80030

Overview of website?

My website is targeted to attorneys. I transcribe verbatim -- putting everything that was said, exactly as it was said, on paper. My transcripts are generally used as Exhibits in court trials.~~

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To reach as many people as possible.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was a free site through my Internet provider four years ago.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My website name says exactly what I do.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Many secretarial/transcription sites "outsource" work to subcontractors. I do all the work myself and don't contract it out. Privacy and confidentiality are very important in the legal field as well as to myself. I protect client confidentiality and privacy as though it were my own.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I have been an independent legal secretary/transcriptionist since 1992. Even after 16 years, I still put 35-50% back into the business -- whether for new equipment, education, marketing/advertising.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

While my goal is to let as many people as possible "needing my transcription services" know about my services, I don't want to get too big that I am unable to have a one-on-one working relationship with my clients. I don't want to hire employees or be forced to farm out/subcontract the work. I've never missed a deadline.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Either too much work all at once, or no work the following week.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have had this site for 2-1/2 years. I'm constantly updating or changing it so it doesn't become stale.

What is your website address?
