California toffee Brandini Toffee Interview
Name of your website?

Brandini Toffee

Your name?

Justin Post

Your Location (city, etc)

La Quinta

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Brandini Toffee sells handmade gourmet almond toffee with only 4 fresh ingredients - Creamy butter, pure cane sugar, roasted almonds and Guittard dark chocolate.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Founders Leah Post and Brandon "Brandini" Weimer, two high school sophomores, wanted to go on a class trip to Italy so their parents told them that they had to pay half. The website was the method they used to begin getting sales. They eventually paid off their trip and made it to Italy.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Name of the company. It has been the name that Leah has called Brandon since they were 4 - "Brandini".

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

The personal touch. We have many photos, comments and stories that we like to share with our customers. They enjoy reading about what the kids are up to.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To create a successful family business.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We've invested everything back into the business at this point but are having a great time. We feel like we've already achieved success but are hoping that we can start paying ourselves back in the next 6 months.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Wouldn't change it much however we are doing some SEO updates next week. Would just comtinue to add more useful content.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Depends how much and when. A huge amount of traffic going to BrandiniToffee.com during Christmas would probably put us over the top.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Not too many. Our slow but consistent growth has allowed us to manage things fairly well.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Other sites linking to it.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

More work than anticipated.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

We started the first website that was then "Brandini Roca" in October 2006. Brown and Haley, "Almond Roca", called and asked us to change our name. We then became "Brandini Toffee".

What is your website address?

Brandini Toffee
