Please give us a short summary of your website?
A directory for San Diego with listings, articles, maps, and photos.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
In 2003 I had just moved to San Diego and wanted to start a big project using PHP to better understand it. As I was obsessed with all things San Diego it seemed a logical choice. I'm still amazed by all the great stuff there is here in SD, and I still enjoy workign with PHP.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website, launched back around 1998 was www.FluffyCat.com, a reference for programming. It is still online...
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I naamed the site "New To San Diego" mostly because I was new to San Diego and the name was available. The site is still meant for those new to or visiting the area, but there are also a lot of resources (like restaurant or shopping listings) that are useful to long time San Diegans.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
NewToSanDiego has a lot of photographs (well over 1000) that you don't usually see in a directory type site. Many directories might be done by people not from the area, but I do live here in San Diego. I also have a lot information grouped by neighborhood. San Diego is huge and there are many neighborhoods, so even after 5 years I'm still learning about them.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
As I am a programmer the site has always been a bit weak graphically. I like the sparse look, but it cold probably be a bit more visualy appealing...
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been up since 2003, and I plan to keep it going indefinately.
What is your website address?
