Please give us a short summary of your website?
Listomi is a new online service based on lists and list management. Listomi aims to be the leading site for online list repositories. Using innovative approaches to the organization of list data and bringing a social networking aspect to the field, leaves Listomi in the forefront of list repositories and list data management.
The goal of Listomi is to become the known place to go to for lists of all shapes and sizes. Currently lists are created by both ourselves and any Listomi member who so desires.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The idea first came up while I was working on another project and needed a fairly large list. I soon realized that there wasn't any central repository for lists. Thus the concept was born
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I don't remember when the very first site I launched was, it would have been long long ago. Listomi however is a large scale website owned and operated by Teknesis, Inc.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It took a while to finally decide on a name. Something relevant to the content was needed while being fresh and web 2.0 minded. Then "Listomi" was invented.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Listomi is a very ambitious attempt to catalog the universe, in lists. No other such service has existed to this extent, until now.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
The longer term strategy for Listomi would be to sell it or continue to expand to the point of an IPO.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Listomi is gaining more attention and more traffic everyday. It can be a long road building the amount of traffic needed to sustain the company, but we're off to a great start.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Development, promotion, and list creation would be our main focus with a larger budget. Currently there aren't any major changes that being put off due to development or budget. Everyday we are working towards a greater Listomi.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
If you believe enough in a concept then you can always do something to keep up. There will always be certain growing pains but growing quickly is definitely something we can handle.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Costs and requirements of forming a business, wearing many many hats.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Growing and getting large amounts of traffic.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Our goal for the majority of our traffic is to receive substantial organic search engine traffic. So the most successful promotion method for us so far has been optimizing and promoting towards google.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
There is always more to do, always something to fix, change, or improve. These are not necessarily unexpected but very important and it's been a fun ride so far.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Listomi has been live since Nov. 2007. We're changing and evolving everyday, but we're definitely giving this our all and will push it until it's successful
