Please give us a short summary of your website?
A gazillion days worth of human history. I wanted to build a website where people can read, write, and share their stories with everyone else. A way to learn about each other by reading how we lived.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
My grandfather had passed away a few months earlier and I wanted to create a website where you can be remembered for who you really are.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website. I launched it about a month ago. I have been working on it for about four or five months.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted it to be simple and represent what it really was, a collection of days lived by normal people. I hope that someday there will be a gazillion days written on the website.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I think that there are plenty of websites that are similar to this one. I tried to tie people's stories together going from page to page. So, you get read about someone living in San Diego on one page, then click to the next page, and read about someone living in Austrialia. There is also a way to print your stories to a hardback book. This was something I used to save my best memories forever.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I would like to have people all over the world write about themselves. That way we can live a moment in someone else's life. We could live in different places, and different times.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I believe it was worth the time and money to build the website. I like working on projects that are fun and creative. And I want to help people get to know one another without revealing too much information.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would a section to upload pictures. I still want to add that sometime. I would also like to have a feedback system. So, people not only know how many times their story was read, but what advice or comments they want to share.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I believe I can adapt to growth. I have worked on demanding projects and I feel that when I give my all, I can find solutions to many of my issues.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Not to many headaches yet. I've only spent on hosting and getting listed on several directories.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is finding out how to promote the website. I'm not sure what the best way to reach out to people.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
So far, the most successful method has been through word-of-mouth. I have several of my friends using the website.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has taken a lot of time and effort to build the website. At first I just wanted to build a quick and simple website. But the more I got into it, the more time and effort it took to get it right.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been running for a little over a month. I plan to keep it forever. Even it does not become huge, I will keep it as my own personal website.
