Please give us a short summary of your website?
Windsong provides the homeowner with unique products to enhance the beauty of their home at an affordable price.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I felt that there was a need to offer unique and quality products for the home at affordable prices.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
www.windsong4you.com was launched in 2006
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I initially wanted to sell wind chimes to my customers, hence the name WIND. The beautiful sound that came from the chimes was like a song or lullaby to me, hence the name SONG. "4you" was added to the end as a presentation to my customers. From this Windsong4you was created and named for the site.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
The uniqueness and quality of the products at affordable prices.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To grow it into a viable organization. Beyond that only time will tell.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Way too much time and money has gone into the site, but success is gaged from satisfaction in knowing that I could start such a company from scratch.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Grow it more organically so advertising cost would be in check.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Search engine advertising has gotten out of hand in this economic down-turn
What has been your biggest challenge?
Ensuring that my customers are adequately served
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Starting to see more promise in the social networking and content advertising
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
A lot more time is needed to promote the site.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have had it running about three years. If there comes a time when the site becomes more exhausting than enjoyable, then I will shout the site down.
Do you intend to grow your product line more than the level it is today?
Yes, I will add a couple more products and perhaps drop a couple products that are not as profitable.
