Name of your website?Rama's SCREEN
Your name?
Rama
Your Location (city, etc)
Riverside
Please give us a short summary of your website?
A movie commentary website with film headlines, reviews, trailers, images and articles which invite movie-related opinions from the readers.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I have been a movie aficionado ever since I could remember but what truly inspired me to launch the website is the chance to expand my network to include those who love to talk about movies as much as I do
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first and only website so far. In January 2007, my friend and I launched and ever since then, it has always been called: Rama's SCREEN
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My friend, KC, a graphic designer who set up the website, came up with the name. I thought it was too self-absorbed at first but then I figured it would be helpful if I want to pursuit a more serious work in the film industry someday.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It's a movie commentary website, so I comment on the latest headlines, I give out reviews but also invite Readers to leave their comments on those articles as well. Rama's SCREEN welcomes movie-related opinions.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I'll keep it running. Eventually I might have somebody else run the website while I go into film-making. We're open to the option of selling it someday in the near future but as of now, it's not in our plans.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Balancing time and money has always been a challenge. Especially often times, I would have to drive clear to Hollywood to attend press screenings, which is quite a distance away from Riverside. But I don't consider it as 'against my success', I think of it as part of the process to success.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I'd hire another more experienced webmaster to help us make Rama's SCREEN as attractive and user-friendly as possible.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. Without a doubt. And Rama's SCREE will always try to adapt with the changes of time and trend.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Problems with the server. Networking with Marketing reps who work for the studios.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting the word out, promoting Rama's SCREEN. It's a constant, on-going thing that never ends.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Submitting my website to website/blog directories out there. Making friends with social networking websites especially the small ones because they have target audience.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
At first I expected it to be nothing than a mere hobby, but then my readers and the number of visitors started rising and I thought, this could be a good business/hobby.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It's been going for almost two years now. I'll continue to keep it up as long as possible, even if I don't get big gains in traffic, income or popularity. The way I see it is this, you need to love what you do and this is what I love. I try not to worry myself too much to the point where I get burnout. To me, the secret to success is to stay in love
Why Movies?
Movies to me serve as a getaway. With all the troubles in life that the real world has day in and day out, I believe people love talking about movies to relieve them from the stress of their daily lives. It's a great topic to discuss.
