Alberta hot shot Lonesome Crane & Trucking Ltd. Interview
Name of your website?

Lonesome Crane & Trucking Ltd.

Your name?

John R. Dumont

Your Location (city, etc)

Calgary, Alberta

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Hot Shot delivery fast and easy, done your way or the highway.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

It's the easiest way to reach the widest audience possible in the shortest time frame. Evryone is visual, this website gives my potential clients a look at the vehicles I have to offer for delivery services.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Launched just over a month and a half ago, this website was designed by my brother in BC. Companies are logging onto the Net to find the vendors they need - this website will give them better access to the types of services they are looking for.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It's how the West was One.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Easier to navigate, more up to date and easily adaptable to suit the needs of clients.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The website will help me expand my database of potential clients and hopefully make the site more searchable on other search engines.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

The time spent on the website design, the money and its ease of navigation will no doubt give clients a faster time at making their decision to hire our company.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

If Flash were something taht interested Hot Shotters, no doubt we could offer that - but for now we'll see how the demand is online.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

There is no bandwidth limit on the site, the more clicks the better.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

There hasn't been anythign too hard to deal with at the moment - I'm happy with what I've directed myself towards. It's a positive endeavor.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge to date is finding the right company to contract with. The industry is in demand but it seems difficult to talk with the right company representatives who are looking for hot shot delivery service.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Faxing and direct mailing are still key ingredients in contacting the right departments.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

The website runs itself - it offers all the current data on the vehicle specifications and can easily be changed to reflect any new purchase items.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The website will remain online indefinitely. it's been two months since it's been available online and will remain there for all future clients to access. It has been constructed to grow and adapt as need sees fit.

Have you networked with any other Hot Shot delivery companies in Alberta?

It would be great to network in this environment - I'm sure other companies would like to grow or network, in an openly competitive market there should be room to grow.

What is your website address?

By looking at your website I get some updated information about the many different types of portable cranes are now available in the market and consequently the several applications some of them I never thought before now. I wonder how it is possible to undertake a reliable market study in order to go for some standard products, which will then be saleable at a fair price compared to custom made cranes that will cost more. I also wonder about how to decide for the many accessories available on the market because in the end is all comes down to financial benefits even if I do realize that there are many ergonomic advantages or maybe even laws that require the use of portable hoists. There is also a question about safety that applies to the way the cranes are operated. Good and reliable instructions especially related to overweight that can be the cause of serious accident. Finally there is the issue of warranty, which is not so easy to solve. OK for the main product itself it is not a big deal, but what about all the accessories you buy from other suppliers?
