Alberta courier service D & R Courier Interview
Name of your website?

D & R Courier

Your name?

Sandy Davidson

Your Location (city, etc)

St Albert

A Little about our company

D & R Courier is a medium sized courier service that specializes in Regular Courier Service, HOT SHOT and After Hour Services. Our service area is St Albert, Edmonton and the surrounding areas.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

There is lots of exposure to be hand online with a website. It would be a missing part of our marketing not to have a website.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Way back in the early 90's. It was a personal site. All the HTML was done by hand.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Took the first letters of two things we like and added courier. Pretty simple stuff

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Our website? It's clean and clear and easy to navigate. We hope that will be an asset.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To keep it and continue to build a customer base from clients going online to find the service they require.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Not sure yet, that we will only know in time. Part of this is money saving as one partner myself can put up the website and do all the online marketing. So we have saved money this way.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Well I would keep the website. Market more online by paying to add my link, as well I would take it to the newspapers and possibly a mini commercial.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Well I am thinking we would have to hire on a driver or two. Looking forward, my partner would have to give up his full time job and come into this company full time. We would both have to pull longer hours. If that still did not cover all that was needed we would have to bring on extra staff.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Well one big one. The day I launched the website and advertised online at over 6 websites, our main van broke down. While it was a simple fix, we didn't know how to fix it. We took down all the adds, changed the index page of the site and set about getting our main van fixed. That was done a day later, thank God no charge went with that. Now tonight another day later I am back putting out the word for the site again. So far the only cost we have put out for this has been $45 for business cards.

What has been your biggest challenge?

By far the biggest challange will be marketing and getting our first clients and our first runs. Once we do that, we will be off and running.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

The business and local web sites that are free to advertise. As well as Google and Yahoo which at the lowest is free to submit a link

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It has not different. I have been making websites for a good long time.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

This site was put up two weeks ago. It took about 2 weeks of constant working to get the site up and runniing. The web site will stay up no matter how big we get.

Why the site and the new company?

After thinking I had made it in white collar, I started taking closer looks at my spouses pay. In one month he makes double what I do, take home. Well my boss was driving me crazy, I had been on some runs with my spouse, and being outside and seeing the sun and breathing in real air was to much for me. We talked it over and decided we were going to put up our own web site and get our own company going. I decided blue collar was and is where the money is. And beyond that. Now my cash flow depends on how I hussle my butt and my customer service. And now I'm master of my own destiny! I cannot explain how good that feels.

What is your website address?
